The Tranquility has headed back upto Scotland this week to work out of their home port of Fraserbrough, to fish for Prawns. The Prawn fishing has improved over the last couple of weeks up in the North Sea and with the Haddock prices being down, Peter, Brian and the crew thought it best to head back that way.

It has been good for us to have someone to work alongside in the last 3 months, we

We landed our catch again this morning at PTA. We had a nice bit of Squid from two days fishing off Lundy, then we steamed back home on the third day to fish closer to home. We did a short trip as with Squid it is important to land them early as the shelf life is a lot shorter than with white fish. The Squid fishing was good for a couple of days but on the third day it took off quick, so we left

We landed our catch this morning on Plymouth market, the prices weren't too bad, but there is quite a lot of Haddock being landed in the country at the moment so the price of Haddock was a bit dissappointing for us.

We had another colourful supprise in our catch yesterday - we netted a golden Haddock! I have only ever seen one before, some 7 - 8yrs ago so they are quite rare

I'm glad to report that doctor fish has been to visit the good ship Crystal Sea and the crew are feeling much better, we have been working to the south of the Scillies by 15-20miles and with a bit more tide in the water the fishing has improved.

The summer Haddocks have started, they are a good run and nice and fat. The Dory fishing has been good as well and yesterday we had a silver

Losing our cool

With the arrival of summer we are starting to see large numbers of Basking sharks, we pass these huge beasts on our way to and from Newlyn. They like to sit in the tidal currents especially around Gwennap Head, near Porthcurno, at high tide they can be seen sifting the waters off Lamorna and Mousehole. They don't cause us any trouble nor do we seem to bother them, but the food that they are

We have been working to the south of the scillies in the last week, the fishing has been up and down, with 2-3days of good fishing, then 2-3days of slacker fishing.

It was all becoming a bit dull, until early one morning we hauled and had a huge suprise in our nets, we had a lovely salmon which weighed about 3kg. I have never caught a salmon whilst at sea before in the time that I have been

Long Days and Slack Fishing

June is here and the fishing is slack. This usually happens in the month of June for a couple of weeks, then the summer fishing starts and all is ok again

This year is more difficult as the price of small Haddocks is way down so we are trying to avoid catching them and chase more valuable fish like flats, Monk and Dory. We could go to the grounds where we know there will be plenty of

Alec has had the boat away this week, the fishing has been fairly steady but they have had to move around a fair bit this trip as the fishing has been quite flighty. This can happen sometimes as the tide this week has cut very quickly which can make the fish move over the ground quick, but I'm glad to say the last 24 hrs has been better with some good hauls of haddocks and mixed prime.

WE landed our catch yesterday evening, we had done another 5 day trip and we had very good fishing again. The summer haddocks have started to come on to the grounds, the hauls were a bit hit and miss,  at times we were only seeing 200-250kgs a go but we had some big hauls with well over a tonne of haddocks for a four hour tow. We had a nice bit of other fish as well with some

Quick turn-around to catch the last market

We started our trip on Monday morning, it was quite a poor day and we had to steam to the west (into the weather) which didn't help. Even though it was poor we didn't fish too badly, we had a nice few Haddocks, some flats and some nice Dorys. Tuesday wasn't much better, it was still SW 6-7 but we managed to push on through.

Wednesday the weather fined away and we had a good couple
